Goal and Reflection Essay
When I wrote my goal statement for my application into the program my goals were simple: I wanted to learn about how to incorporate technology into my curriculum, include fine arts as well as technology in my classes, and create a class website. My goals now are similar, I still want to incorporate technology into my curriculum, I want to create a website for my class and teams and lastly I want to get my technology “stuff” organized so I can use it more often. I wrote my goal statement in the spring of 2009 when I was applying for the masters program at MSU. At the time I was finishing up my third year of teaching at Mancelona High School. My baby was eight months old. Today, I believe my goals are similar and I think they are attainable in the near future.
Since writing the goal statement a lot has changed, I am now working on finishing my 6th year of teaching, my little baby is two and a half years old and I have another baby! I am the varsity volleyball coach and the middle school girls track coach at my school. I have digital cameras for every student in my class. I know a lot about the digital imaging program that my school has to offer me and I love it! I have had two students receive honors for digital photography and editing. My thinking and goals have changed because of everything that has happened in my life.
My goal to publish a class website that also offers information for my teams is still a priority. I think that since I am coaching a varsity sport now this would be so amazing for the team and the community. I feel this goal will be accomplished because of the portfolio requirements.
My last goal now has also evolved over the last two years. I have done lots of technology “stuff” for different assignments and I also use Moodle at my school. I would love to get my “stuff” organized so that I could use it successfully and often. Right now I have assignments started on Moodle and some in Google Sites.
Students enjoy my art classes because they include fine arts as well as technology. It is important to have experience in all areas of art. With my class set of cameras and hundreds of hours logged on my schools graphic design program I feel I am offering my student’s quality technology inspired instruction. Every student now has experience with digital photography and graphic design. The students really enjoy this and I think it is a good life skill for them to have.
Overall, my goals are similar and I think they are attainable in the near future.
